Who We Serve

The Highlands School serves children in grades K-8 (ages 5-14) with learning differences including language processing deficits, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other learning needs. Our students have the potential for average or above average achievement but struggle to learn in a conventional school setting in spite of effective classroom instruction. They manifest difficulties in one or more areas of skill development, including:

  • Language and Auditory Processing
  • Verbal Communication (receptive and expressive)
  • Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development)
  • Attention and concentration
  • Short-term or long-term memory
  • Perceptual motor integration (writing/copying tasks)
  • Gross or fine motor coordination
  • Organization, study, and social skills

Our students come from Baltimore, Cecil, and Harford counties, Baltimore City and even as far as New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia!

A child who learns differently needs to be taught differently.
