We’re so excited that you’ve taken the first step in learning more about The Highlands School and all that we have to offer! We hope you find the information here helpful and encourage you to stop by anytime to see for yourself what’s described on the pages that follow!
Since the school’s inception more than 13 years ago, The Highlands School has remained true to its mission of serving bright children who struggle with language processing difficulties, Dyslexia, ADHD and other learning differences. Our philosophy and personal belief — that a failure to learn is because a unique learning style has not yet been discovered — remains unchanged and is the driving force behind all that we do.
The students we serve come to us having already experienced frustration in school. They enter The Highlands School in all grades, ages and levels. During their short time here, about two to three years, they discover that they have many gifts that will carry them far in life. Through specific strategies and multisensory approaches, the students learn to compensate for their weaker areas, gain confidence in their own abilities, achieve academically, and advocate for themselves. They begin to recognize and build upon their strengths, making it possible for each one to receive the help needed to become a successful, independent learner.
Please call or come visit us to find out how we may help your student. Early detection and intervention is vital. The sooner you can begin a new direction in your child’s education, the more success they will have.

Just like the mother bird whose fledgling has mastered the dynamics of flight, when our students are ready to fly, we don’t keep them close to the nest. Instead, we send them out into the world to become who they were created to be and boy do they fly! Former parents often comment on the increased confidence their children exhibit. They share through surveys, personal conversations and letters sent to the school how the same children who once thought they could do nothing right now believe in their own potential and self-worth. Highlands’ graduates communicate the same and tell us that they would have given up long ago if they hadn’t received the help they needed at The Highlands School. What do you say to a former student who stops by to visit as a middle school student and thanks the staff for “picking him up off the ground and putting him back on his feet?”
What we say is that we’ll continue to do what we do best. We meet each child where he or she is, teach them the strategies they need to become successful, independent learners and welcome opportunities to share what we know with anyone who believes that a child who learns differently needs to be taught differently!
